This week, I am sitting down with Actor, Dan Lett! I am pretty sure I could have recorded all day and still not have squeezed 10 percent of the forty years of knowledge and wisdom Dan has amassed through his career as an actor and living a creative lifestyle.

Dan is naturally a great storyteller, complete with impressions and all, but what I was so grateful for with this experience with Dan was how he used his stories and shared his experiences in a way that will serve others. At some points his stories make you feel better in a “me too” kind of way, reassuring you that it’s okay you bombed that audition and the phone will ring again and other stories make you feel like you were being let in on a secret and that you may be able to spare yourself some humiliation and heartache if you take his lessons to heart and store them away to use at a crucial moment.

The biggest nugget I took away from Dan is that what is done is done! There is no going back, so deal with it in the moment and then move on! If we can become more comfortable with idea that rejection is there to shape and guide us we will be a lot happier and ultimately more successful because we are focused on what we have to gain and not on what we have lost.

In this episode:

  • What he believes every performer should do when they first start out pursuing a career
  • How you can learn a lot about acting by watching  other actors in process
  • What big lesson he learned from working with Rick Mercer on Made In Canada for five seasons
  • How to deal with rejection and move forward.
